Diatomaceous Earth

This past year on the homestead we discovered a product that is so versatile that we use it on our livestock, in our house, and for our own health.  Sounds weird doesn't it?  But I assure you that it isn't weird, but a life changing product that you should research for possible use for your own home and family.  It is important that you use Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, not to be confused with the pool chemical D.E..  Food Grade D.E. can be bought in local Health Food Stores or from online retailers.  There are so many things that this product can be used for.  I thought I would share with you some of the many, many uses.

What is Diatomaceous Earth you may ask?  It occurs naturally. It is siliceous sedimentary rock that has been reduce to a very fine powder.  It almost feels and looks like confectioners sugar.   Food Grade D.E. is 89% Silica.  Silica is a mineral that plays an important role in many bodily functions and has a direct relationship to mineral absorption.

Human Use:

People taking D.E. have reported these things happening in their bodies.  Pain relief, back pain, joint, knee pain, arthritis, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, weight loss, better digestion, stronger nails, regrowth of hair, detoxification, anti-inflammatory and so much more.  It has given me great energy and growth in my nails.  I have seen friends that have had back pain for years be completely healed.  There are so many testimonials to be found online of people whose lives have been changed by this product.  I mix a heaping tablespoon with cranberry juice and drink it each morning.

Household Use:

Organic Pest Control, ants, roaches, silver fish, spiders, fleas etc. Put a border of it around the outside of your house and in the cracks and crevices of where you would have put heavy chemicals.  Make a paste with water and use as a face mask or metal cleaner.  It can be used on plants as an organic pesticide.

Pets and Livestock:

Fleas, ticks, mites, as well as a natural wormer.  We use it for our chickens, goats and dogs.  We put D.E. in the chickens dust bath area to keep their coat clean and free of mites and mix with their food for good digestion.  We mix in the goats and lambs feed.  I dust the dogs whenever I see them start to scratch, within the day, they stop.

The uses are too numerous to list here.   I encourage you to research and learn about it how it could be beneficial to you and your family.  It is also one of the most inexpensive products I have ever used.   So many health products these days, cost a lot of money.  The retailer I buy this from charges $2.50 a pound and it takes a lot to make up a pound because it is so light.  You can but it even cheaper if you buy it by the 50 lb bag online.  Because we use it so much, I am going to do that this next time I run out.

I would love to hear some other uses that you may use it for or some testimonials on what it has done in your life.
